The NY Arabic Orchestra consists of 25 and 40 performers on average, consisting of lead vocalists, choral and instrumentalists. Instruments include oud (section), nay, buzuq, qanun, strings (section of violin, viola, cello, doublebass), Arabic percussion (section riqq, tabla and frame drums), woodwinds (section of flutes, clarinet, oboe) and Arabic accordion. The number of performers can be greater, e.g. to accommodate a composer's need for additional instrumentation or to fulfill the needs of various music scores. Examples of additional instruments were bassoon, bass clarinet, French horn, trumpet, piano, electric bass, guitar and drumset. The full orchestra is perfect for cultural events, classical Arabic performances, dance performances and fusion settings, incorporating modern works infused with western-classical influences.
The NY Arabic Orchestra 'Large Ensemble' consists of 10 to 15 musicians. The Large Ensemble typically includes one vocalist, oud, nay, qanun, accordion, 2-5 violins, viola, cello, doublebass and Arabic percussion section. The Large Ensemble is ideal for large festivals and special events.
The NY Arabic Orchestra 'Small Ensemble' consists of 3-7 musicians on average. The Small Ensemble typically includes oud, nay, qanun or accordion, violin, doublebass and 1-2 percussionists, with an option to include one vocalist. The Small Ensemble is ideal for workshops, university and public school, small to moderate venues, private events and parties.
